About the event
Course Description
Youth dating violence is a persistent issue across Canada, and interventions to date have had limited long-term impact. Many young victims express a desire for those who have harmed them to engage in meaningful, sustainable change, rather than be subjected to the traditional punitive response. This workshop will explore youth dating violence within a Canadian context: its prevalence and risk factors, in tandem with intervention strategies that emphasize safety, engagement, and developmental theory.
Our approach invites accountability and behavioural change from those who have perpetrated violence, while also acknowledging their own pain and vulnerability. Join Heather Barbour and Bente Skau for an online interactive workshop as we introduce our "both/and" approach to treatment that supports not only the well-being of those who have harmed, but broader community safety as a whole.
