About the event
Course Description
Comprehensive assessment is the cornerstone of best practice when working with children under 12 who engage in concerning sexual behaviour (CSB). This course guides participants through the full process—from gathering information across all domains of functioning to making sense of the findings in a way that informs treatment, safety, and collaboration with families. Using a developmentally appropriate lens, participants will learn how to distinguish normative behaviours from those that require intervention, engage parents and caregivers in the process, and carefully consider safety planning and contact with other children. The training will also introduce the empirically informed Guided Assessment of Intervention Needs (GAIN) for Children with Concerning Sexual Behaviour tool, designed to help determine the level of concern and guide treatment recommendations. Through case examples and practical application, participants will strengthen their ability to integrate assessment findings, highlight strengths, identify needs, and formulate clear, effective treatment plans.
