About the event
Course Description
Adolescents who engage in sexually abusive behaviours are a diverse and complex group, requiring thoughtful, developmentally informed assessment and conceptualization. A comprehensive assessment does more than identify risks—it highlights strengths, protective factors, and treatment needs, while helping us understand the individual pathways that led to the behaviour. This training provides a holistic framework for assessing adolescents across their lifespan functioning, with a specific focus on sexual offence–related domains. Participants will learn how to use developmentally appropriate language and tools, integrate the Risk-Needs-Responsivity (RNR) principles, and draw from multiple assessment instruments. Moving beyond outdated “risk of reoffending” approaches, the course emphasizes formulating balanced, strengths-based recommendations that support accountability, safety, and long-term growth. Through case examples and applied practice, participants will strengthen their ability to synthesize assessment findings into meaningful treatment plans tailored to each youth.
