Course Description:
Childhood trauma or engaging in concerning sexual behaviour can affect individual children and youths’ self perception, boundaries, and voice. It can leave clients confused, reluctant and unsure of how to explore and understand their own sexual development. Teaching healthy sexuality is crucial in trauma and concerning sexual behaviour treatment for children and youth. As clinicians we can often feel overwhelmed with the sense of weight and responsibility of exploring sexual decision making with our clients. This workshop will introduce a global framework of considering the fifteen domains that make up healthy sexual development. This opens a wide variety of entry points into the topic allowing comfort for the client, clinician, as well as, ways of involving parents in the discussions. Through considering developmental stages matching age-appropriate material becomes more accessible.
